Incentivizing the Incentives Industry
ROI is working with Helping Hand Rewards, a conduit and a catalyst between social enterprise organizations that produce merchandise and incentive companies. The ultimate goal is to build new distribution channels for the organizations’ products thereby increasing earned income revenue streams and social impact.
Mercado Global, one of HHR’s social enterprise partners is opening up new economic opportunities for women through cooperatives based in Guatemala, which produce hand-made jewelry for the U.S. market. The true value of this work opportunity is difficult to understand until it is set against the background of these women’s lives. At one co-op a group of nine women learned to bead when they were employed by a German-owned export business. After 12 years, the company folded and many of the found themselves cleaning houses and hotels from sunrise to sundown, 6 days a week, for the equivalent of $65.00 a month.
Now, with Mercado Global, they are paid fairly and can work from their homes. Anna Patricia, a Mercado Global cooperative member adds “they are happy because they know they have money…they are saying that they hope there are more orders so they can continue to work with Mercado Global and support their children.”
