A Concept for the Classroom, a Strategy for Life
ROI is working with UIC on a pilot undergraduate certificate program that develops new paradigms for higher education through creative collaboration between college students, community organizations, and corporations.
While leading public urban universities have greatly expanded service-learning programs over the past decade, UIC has gone one step further with CCLCP. CCLCP recognized early on that engaging undergraduate students in learning that is contextualized in civic partnerships could lead to greater academic achievement and foster a new generation of leaders.
Encouraged by positive student academic outcomes and faculty engagement, CCLCP leadership engaged ROI to take stock of its accomplishments to determine the full potential of the program for the university, undergraduate students, and community partners beyond the pilot phase. One important challenge facing CCLCP is the need to create long-term organizational and financial sustainability while continuing to develop and offer a unique dimension to UIC’s academic experience. A discovery process to well underway to extract both the innovations and the added value of CCLCP and its the potential for scale at UIC and within the larger academic community.
